The capital and largest city on the North-East side of the island. About an hour driving from Garachico. Our first stop is the Auditorio de Tenerife. Unmistakably a building designed by Santiago Calatrava.
It’s massive yet elegant at the same time. The semi-arch suspended over the building is a technical masterpiece. Like almost every building by Calatrava, this one too got criticised because of various structural problems and budget increase. We have seen multiple buildings of his hand and i must admit, they are all stunning. What I honestly don’t understand, why on earth do you build such a building for barely 1 million inhabitants?
Within the blink of an eye, we decided to take a guided tour of the building. Both concert halls are just awesome. I loved the color of the fabric of the seats. The main hall with its lovely designed organ is mind blowing. The shape of the ceiling is reminiscent of a star or a crown.
One day we should definitely return to enjoy a concert. It is rumoured that the acoustic would be ear-pleasing.
We continued our citytrip and stumbled upon the TEA building, Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, designed Herzog & de Meuron. It is a polyvalent building which houses a museum and a stunning library.
