For the best reading experience, please go to the first blog post about Puglia.
‘If you go to Puglia, you should definitely visit Ostuni, la città bianca’. Famous words from our Italian neighbour.
Looking back, it’s not just Ostuni that’s white, but most of the villages we visited.
Every year, the municipality requires the residents of Ostuni to whitewash their houses. And that’s not the case everywhere.
As the village is located on a hill, you can see it shining in the sun from afar.
Here, too, there are numerous charming alleys and after every corner there is a surprise waiting for you. There are terraces all over the place, and since it’s hot and you need to compensate for your body’s dehydration, it didn’t take long before we were sitting down to enjoy an Aperol spritz and Negroni.

Food, an important part of a balanced diet.
Eating is something Italians love to do, especially when it comes from mamma’s kitchen. And so do we!
In general, it is fair to say that you cannot eat badly in Italy. And that has been our experience too. Since the sea was never far away, we have frequently enjoyed some fresh fish. Sometimes the best place to eat is at a local butcher who grills his own meat. You walk in, choose your meat from the counter, add your vegetables, and 20 minutes later you get your perfectly grilled meat at your table. Delicious and at a very reasonable price.
Wanna give it a try? Batti le mani at Via Savona – Torre Canna. Make sure to bring some mosquito repellent with you because at dawn they tend to get hungry as well.
When you walk around on the local market, you immediately understand why you can eat so beautifully in Italy. All products are of impeccable quality and fresh as can be. The tomatoes are delicious and available in seemingly endless varieties.
Unfortunately, we didn’t drive here, otherwise we would have taken some vegetables home with us.
