We were waiting at 7 am for the local entrance to open. <em>[a tip from another blogger]<\/em><br \/>So we didn&#8217;t go through the main entrance like most visitors do. And that is giving yourself the time to understand where you are and what you are looking at. This further enhanced our experience. <br \/>Fifteen minutes after we arrived, the first camels started to appear. They went to their strategic positions to tempt tourists into taking a ride. They really earn their name as \u201cthe ships of the desert\u201d. <br \/>A little further on, we had breakfast, which was prepared by our hotel, under the morning sun. The Great Pyramid has a base measuring 230 metres. And, as you would expect, the entire site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Standing next to the Great Pyramid, you realise just how colossal it is. It is a cemetery, or mastabas. <br \/>They were used for the burials of relatives or officials of the kings. <br \/>The mastaba we visited was the Tomb of Meresankh III, Queen and Wife of Khafre, who built the middle pyramid.<br \/>It was beautifully decorated with painted reliefs and carved figures.
