I don’t know why. But Paris and I have a certain chemistry, like longtime lovers. Not only because the city is famous for her ‘vibrations amoureuse’ but for her ‘pr\u00e9sence en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral’. The squares, avenues, parks, great bistro’s and restaurants, the river Seine and of course the numerous museums. We specifically went for 2 of them which we never visited before. ‘Fondation Louis Vuiton’ and ‘Bourse de commerce’. Both didn’t disappoint!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fondation Louis Vuiton rises on the edge of Bois de Boulogne and has a very distinct shape. Airy, translucent and covered with glass shells like the wings of a beetle. Designed by the Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry. The whole structure is amazing. It houses the museum, auditorium and multi level roof terrace with an open view over the Paris skyline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We went to see the pop-art of Tom Wesselmann. Perhaps not as well know as Lichtenstein, Haring, Warhol, Hockney or Panamarenko, but his works are just as good. He was quite a versatile artist. Drawings, paintings, models, sculptures or metal structures, he did it all. A recurring characteristic is his vibrant use of colour. Some of his realistic ‘Still Lifes’ had working components such as telephones and radios.
The exhibition was twofold. The first part was entirely devoted to him and the second, a thematic setup with works from 35 fellow artists, featuring Jef Koons, Ai Weiwei, Andy Warhol and the Belgian artist Marcel Duchamp.
Pop Art was iconic in the 1960s but remains incredibly relevant in the 21st century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stayed in the 8th district at Hotel Florida<\/a>, a renovated piece of art deco on Boulevard Malesherbes, close to Eglise de la Madeleine. For those who like the Huasmann-style, it is a pearl. It is also close to place de la Concorde and of course, La Seine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
